The Need

In close proximity to numerous established schools, sports clubs and community centres, the South-East Sports Hub will provide a much-needed local amenity for now and well into the future.

Melbourne is the sporting capital of Australia, but sports participation rates in Victoria have dropped, with player registrations in the Bayside suburbs of Melbourne dropping from 22.14 per 100 residents to 18.56 in 2020.

This is not due to a reduction in demand - the acute shortage of publicly accessible outdoor sports facilities in the region means there is no capacity to keep up with the increased need.

The Australian Sports Foundation says sport improves social connectivity and inclusion, building communities and enabling diversity through larger social networks and creating friends for life.

The South-East Sports Hub will be the meeting point for surrounding suburbs and an important asset for future generations.
